http://www.facebook.com/greenwoodfurnace
The Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering is a fun and friendly weekend of playing and listening to folk music - a fantastic three days of workshops, concerts, jams, dancing and friendship. Activities are held at Greenwood Furnace State Park in central PA, about 30 miles from State College and 90 miles from Harrisburg. This is a gorgeous location with beautiful mountain views, many miles of hiking trails, and a six acre lake for swimming and fishing.
Musicians of all instruments and levels are welcome, and there are also options for singers, dancers, and non-musicians. There's a choice of about 45 workshops on topics ranging from old time tunes to shape note singing to playing backup to how to learn by ear. Jam sessions will take place throughout the weekend.
For those who are new to music, there will be dulcimers and autoharps for you to rent for the weekend or borrow for a workshop, and we'll have gentle and patient teachers to get you started. There will be a staff concert each evening, followed by staff-led jams, singing around the bonfire, and a contradance with open band.
The cost for the weekend is $65 if postmarked by August 1 and $80 afterwards. The fee includes all workshops, jams, concerts, and dancing. A meal package with 3 meals Saturday and 2 meals Sunday is available for $45.
Camping is available by calling the park 8am-4pm at 814/667-1800. Let them know you are part of the folk gathering, so that you may camp in the area by the workshop activities. There are also hotels about 15 miles away.

OCT. 29, 30, 31 CHAUTAUQUA LAKE Mark your calendars
ANNUAL FOLK WEEKEND AT THE LAKE
At Camp Onyahsa on Chautauqua Lake (http://www.onyahsa.org/) 5411 East Lake Road, Dewittville, NY 14728
Come to beautiful Chautauqua County for the Annual Folk Music Weekend.
The program this year will feature the following performers:
Mustards Retreat This year we are joined by David Tamulevich and Michael Hough who have celebrated their 35th Anniversary as Mustard's Retreat. Everything Mustard's Retreat does on a stage is aimed at pleasing, moving and engaging their audience. Whether singing their own gentle love songs and vivid ballads, telling tall tales or offering treasures from America's vast traditional song bag, a Mustard's Retreat show always feels like it's designed for the people who have come to see them that day, in that coffeehouse, school, concert hall or festival. Mustard's Retreat are wonderfully unafraid to get silly with their audience, spinning out smartly goofy parodies, too-tall tales of wily rabbits and stupid frogs, hard-traveling cadavers and marauding techno-nerds. In their serious songwriting, that desire to connect with listeners is as evident as it is in their robust sing-along and witty ditties. Whether performing for large festivals, tiny coffeehouses, at special shows for children or families, it clearly pleases them to please their audiences.
John Kirk and Trish Miller: www.johnandtrish.com Singer/songwriter John Kirk is skilled on a variety of instruments, including fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo. A member of several groups throughout the years including Walt Michael & Co., the Susquehanna Stringband, and Vanaver Caravan, John brings a strong voice and championship fiddling. His wife, Trish has been performing as a clog dancer since 1981, including her work with Back Creek Cloggers, the Green Grass Cloggers, and Vanaver Caravan. She plays mountain-style clawhammer banjo and rhythm guitar learned from folks in her native region of Virginia, and is a dance caller, teacher, and choreographer.
